The serial does have familiar elements that people find in other serials, such as a 20 year transformation happening suddenly a saas who is a terror to her bahu (the saas is forever scheming of ways to get rid of her, including trying to burn her on a gas stove). It has a nice sweet ring through the whole serial, and was nice. I asked around, and looked at forum postings, and found mostly that people were appreciative of the serial. I liked this serial (although there were some episodes that I thought were slow and could have done with some effort to speed up things). This serial won a slew of awards in the categories of Best music director, Best Screenplay, Best Actress, Best actor in the negative role, Best program with a social message, Daily best serial and so on.This is a serial by Rajshri, and given that this serial is not from the K camp (Balaji Telefilms), the expectation was that the serial would be different from the regular saas-bahu stuff that happens on all the channels, and it was different. It is directed by few directors namely Kaushik Ghatak, Sujeet Singh, Vikram Ghai and Irfan Shaikh, who helped to show various shades in the serial with drama flowing through many generations, with an impeccable art of story-telling. Produced by Rajshri Productions and penned by Shashi Mittal and Sumeet Mittal. The lead character Rani Mittal, played by Reena Kapoor, won Best actress award at Kalakaar Awards 2005. With a family-centric theme, this serial is the leading show with whooping TRP ratings. It is a realistic portrayal of relationships and marriage. The serial delivers pure Indian simplicity and emotion. The way the show portrays emotions in a subtle way is amazing. The upsides and downsides in a woman’s life were wonderfully shown. As far as the drama is concerned, it is depicted tremendously.
Those who start to watch it really cannot afford to miss watching any episode. The serial is different from other typical crying and dying serials. Also, it is India's sixth longest running serial with 1387 episodes. The show completed 1000 episodes on June 17, 2009.
